To end all forms of sexual and gender-based violence in Central Asia, existing national legislation must be transformed so that implementation comprehensively and meaningfully prevents and protect against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and harmful practices, while providing survivors with the support and redress they require. To address the root causes of SGBV and harmful practices in Central Asia, advocates, survivors and communities need tools for change, partnerships for change and platforms that foster their voice and agency.
In brokering the creation and remit of the first Central Asia-wide mechanism on SGBV, the Initiative supports governments, civil society, activists, survivors, youth, men and faith-based leaders to come together across borders, to foster the expertise needed to respond to and reduce SGBV and harmful practices. This means fostering the sharing of cross-border, region-specific best practices, the joint development of models and tools to guide state-led prevention and response to SGBV and harmful practices, and closing the data gap on SGBV. The region-wide network will build alliances across five countries and Afghanistan to collectively and systematically strengthen legislation and shape local knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practices around SGBV.
Innovation
To foster programmatic innovation, the Central Asia Regional Programme:
-Promotes inclusive innovation, with a focus on supporting the poorest and most vulnerable.
-Creates effective networks and mechanisms for the participation of marginalized and vulnerable groups in the design, testing, learning and adoption of innovative solutions.
-Facilitates collaboration and co-creation across public, private and civil society sectors.
-Identifes and share scalable solutions that demonstrate high potential to achieve and sustain significant impact and cost-effectiveness.
-Introduces new methodologies and technologies to address VAWG (prevention and response).
-Systematizes and evaluate experiences to analyze their potential and replicability.
