The holistic approach of all Spotlight Initiative programmes is contextualised for Sierra Leone’s unique range of challenges and opportunities. The Spotlight Initiative programme will:
- strengthen the legal and institutional frameworks to ensure robust mechanisms are in place to prevent and respond to GBV, including the implementation of data systems that allow for evidence-based policy-making and programming.
- prevent violence by challenging entrenched social norms and behaviours. Efforts will focus on mobilising communities, and engaging religious and traditional leaders, as well as men and boys. Particular attention will be given to reaching the most vulnerable populations, adhering to the principle of “Leave No One Behind”.
- strengthen national, government-led, survivor-centred response systems, including justice, legal and police, and improve national capacities for response and service provision. The programme will also coordinate with and complement the work of local NGOs who are already delivering services.
- place civil society organizations at the forefront of advocacy, policy influence and accountability efforts, in particular grassroots organizations.
