The Spotlight Initiative contributes to ending family violence by strengthening policy and legislation that guarantees the increased protection of women and girls, building capacity of state and non-state actors to respond to family violence, expanding the range of services available and addressing social norms and behaviours that promote violence against women and girls.

Transformative Spaces for networking, dialogue and information sharing
Transformative spaces are created through systematic, periodic engagement for joint planning by government and CSOs to identify priorities at the national and local level as well as to identify evidence-based strategies to address family violence among groups who face multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination. This fosters increased dialogue, partnership and coordination between government and CSOs in the design and implementation of interventions.
Reaching the furthest behind first
A signature intervention is the training and designation of gender advocates in three geographic locations with limited access to services. Gender advocates for each community are identified and trained and serve as a liaison between service providers and individuals at the community level. Advocates increase awareness of communities on the services available and facilitate access to these services. Civil Society Organziations (CSOs) who operate at the community level serve as gender advocates. CSOs support increasing awareness of available services.
Platforms for CSO Networking
Platforms to facilitate CSO and autonomous women’s group networking are supported through the establishment of a CSO hub, supported by a secretariat or technical person, which facilitates follow up actions and ensures effective coordination. This facilitates horizontal networking which results in improved coordination, information sharing and effective implementation of programmes and service delivery.
