Every year from 25 November to 10 December — the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to Human Rights Day — the United Nations, civil society organizations, governments and the private sector come together to galvanize global action to end violence against women and girls.
The 2018 theme for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is Orange the World: #HearMeToo. In support of this year’s campaign, we wanted to ‘Spotlight’ civil society activists and gender advocates who often do not get the recognition or accolades for the challenging and life-changing work they are doing in their communities and countries. We wanted to hear directly from them about the challenges women and girls face and the opportunities their organization’s are providing to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Read the 16 stories from 16 grassroots activists below. Each of their stories were featured on @GlobalSpotlight during each of the 16 days of activism.
